As I sit at my desk creating this post I’m looking outside at our latest snow storm and temps in the single digits. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in a winter wonderland, but sometimes, just sometimes a girl needs to thaw out a little. So I decided to share with you David and Caroline’s family photos from a beautiful late summer day last season!
David and Caroline wrote to me about scheduling family photos before their family’s annual summer trip to Summit County. Typically, more of my family photos happen on winter break but I was excited at the opportunity to capture some of Summit’s summer beauty with this extended family who loves the area so much. We had great fun roaming around some of my favorite spots in Frisco and creating oodles of portrait combinations for them. They even ordered a beautiful family album as a keepsake for the year! (Such a great idea!) I like to photograph at the end of the day so that my clients get a variety of “moods” from the photos. From bright and colorful full sun to that warm gold as the sun sets, to all the beautiful and subtle tones of the sky after the sun dips below the mountains and the horizon.
If you’re interested in family photos during your next vacation to these amazing Colorado rockies, give me a shout!
Winter Family Photos in Summit County Colorado
I was recently contacted by Lauren who was planning their first family trip to Keystone from Texas. She found me through Instagram, which was awesome, and was psyched to be coming to here for the first time. After discussing the look they were going for and we set the date.
It was a stormy week but the date we picked as most ideal turned out to be beautiful…albeit a beautifully COLD day. It was a whopping 9 degrees. Even living here I was chilly but being from Texas, it was even a little more of a shock. The whole family were total troopers though. Even the kiddos made the best of it and managed to have some fun! Thankfully, they had decided on a mini session, which kept things very brief. Mini family sessions come with minimal portrait combinations and are 30 minutes max and just what they were looking for.
The late afternoon light was beautiful and golden and as the sun set we were rewarded with a hint of that every so pretty in pink alpenglow.
If you’re interested in a family session of your own, I offer them Mondays-Thursdays and would be happy to consult with you. Just shoot me an email!
Sarah & Sarah's Intimate Frisco, Colorado Wedding
Sarah and Sarah first connected over their love of playing ruby back on the east coast (surprisingly, where I’m from originally in the DC area…small world!) before they moved their home to Denver. When they reached out to me they wanted to plan an intimate wedding for their closest family “somewhere” in Frisco. We spent a lot of time talking about where exactly. Let’s be honest…the possibilities up here are endless!
A few days before the wedding we met up and I drove them around to three possible spots I had scouted. It needed to be easy to get to for Sarah’s grandmother (who was performing the ceremony) but they also had hoped it would feel private as well. Turned out the first spot I showed them was the charm. A beautiful spot off a “billy goat” path off of the main rec path fit the bill perfectly. Lake Dillon had been preemptively drained a bit to make room for this year’s historic snow melt so the water levels were still low and we were able to walk out to an area with a beautiful stream and 360 degree views of snow capped mountains.
I think the coolest thing about this spot is that it really existed just for them. Even though it’s only been a couple weeks since their wedding, their spot is almost submerged under the snow melt waters now. It was their own perfect little moment, ordered up for their special day.
The love Sarah and Sarah share is beyond obvious. I’m not sure how I even got through their “first look” as the outpouring of support and happiness for each other had me crying like a baby behind the camera. Their families were similarly NOT dry eyed during the ceremony (which got me welling up again). It was truly a joy an honor to be there for them during these moments. Take a look at their beautiful afternoon and leave them some love in the comments.
Cheers!
